Design Management Institute
The Design Management Institute (DMI) is the leading resource and international authority on design management. Founded in 1975, DMI is a nonprofit organization that seeks to heighten awareness of design as an essential part of business strategy. DMI has earned a reputation worldwide as a multifaceted resource, providing the latest thinking, strategies, tools, and training through its conferences, seminars, membership program, and publications.
DMI brings together design and business professionals from corporations, consultancies, the public sector, and academic institutions – across all categories of design – who are interested in advancing their understanding and providing greater value to their organizations, and participating in a high-level, international community of design leaders sharing their knowledge.
DMI develops and sponsors conferences around the world each year, including the prestigious Design/Management Annual Conference, the Design/Management Thinking Conference, the Design/Management Europe Conference, and the biennial International Forum on Design Management Research & Education. The DMI Seminar Program has rapidly grown to become the premier provider of continuing education for design and business professionals. The DMI Membership Program offers several levels of participation, ranging from individual memberships up through the Forum program. Members represent leading corporations, consultancies, and academic institutions from around the world. Publications include the prestigious DMI Review, published quarterly, and the Design Management Journal, published annually, both distributed by Wiley-Blackwell. Other publications include a monthly email newsletter, News & Views distributed to 15,000 individuals, a collection of case
studies distributed through Harvard Business Publishing; and a book series published through Allworth Press.
This combination of activities and publications works together to allow busy professionals to advance their knowledge by staying on top of developments and trends in the field, honing analytical and practical skills, networking and exchanging ideas with colleagues throughout the world, and becoming leaders in their organizations. DMI is headed by President Michael Westcott, and supported by a Board of Directors from various leading Fortune 500 organizations, with diverse backgrounds representing a variety of disciplines. In addition, the Institute benefits from an active, international Advisory Council comprised of leading members of the profession.
