Thursday, November 16

The forum will open at the German Design Council with a case study presentation by BRAUN and case study author, Dr. Karen Freeze, on Thursday afternoon followed by a discussion on topics and processes for future case studies. That evening there will be a reception and dinner at the Braun headquarters in Kronberg.

 

Friday, November 17

On Friday morning Keynote Speaker, Ron Sanchez, Professor of Strategy and Technology Management at International Institute for Management Development, Lausanne, Switzerland will share the latest “state of the art” concepts on knowledge management. Discussion will follow on how these knowledge management concepts relate to design management, as well as an overview on the forum’s Tutorial sessions by Affiliate Prof. Jean-Claude Tarondeau, of the ESSEC Business School in France.

 

Saturday, November 18

The Saturday morning program features a presentation by Julie Hertenstein and Margorie Platt, Associate Professors at Northeastern University on measuring design and a related literature review session, specifically dealing with design and national competiveness and design and business performance; as well as a second case study presentation.

 

Presentations

The afternoon presentations both Friday and Saturday will be held at the congress center of the Deutsche Bibliothek and are organized as parallel, sequential 90-minute sessions, arranged around common themes allowing more interaction of researchers in similar fields.

Thirty-eight papers have been selected to be presented in six topic areas:

  • Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning

  • Design and New Product Development

  • Design and Consumer Research

  • Design and R&D, Technology Development and Innovation

  • Design and Brand Management

  • Design and Strategy and Society

Ten of these papers will be selected for the 2nd edition of the “Design Management Journal” Academic Review.
