DMI currently sponsors three professional education conferences each year for senior management in the various design disciplines, and strategic planning and marketing, who are interested in staying current on design management and design thinking issues/trends and best practices. Each conference has a specific time frame, region, and focus.
The Design/Management Europe Conference is usually held in late winter or early spring and focuses on international design management issues and case studies. Past locations have included London, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, and Barcelona. This high-level event attracts executives, managers, consultants, and educators from around the world.
The Design/Management Thinking Conference is typically held in late spring or early summer on the West Coast of North America. This forward-looking conference delivers the latest cutting-edge design thinking in a nontraditional, interactive format. Past locations have included San Francisco and Vancouver. Founded in 1989, this conference has evolved over the years, moving from a focus on corporate identity, to brand design, and now, design thinking.
The Design/Management Annual Conference is DMI’s big-picture, cross-disciplinary, strategic event. First run in 1977, this elite event has a reputation as a must-attend event among the industry’s best and brightest. The event is usually held in early fall on the East Coast of the United States. Past locations have included Chatham, Cape Cod; Newport, Rhode Island; Cambridge, Mass.; and Williamsburg, Virginia.
In addition, DMI sponsors the biennial International Forum on Design Management Research and Education. Founded in 1989, the Forum is a gathering of researchers and educators whose work embraces problems and issues related to the field of design management. The conference rotates between North America, Europe, and Asia.
