Design managers worldwide are facing a number of issues that are surprisingly common. Over the last two years, DMI has been offering a private, customized workshop for in-house corporate design groups. This workshop, Making the In-house Design Function a Strategic Competency, has now been presented on three continents. The workshop leader, Peter L. Phillips, has drawn on the outcomes of these workshops to compile a list of the ten most commonly reported obstacles to the successful management of corporate design groups. As a result of meeting and interacting with the staff of numerous in-house design departments, he has discovered how to overcome these obstacles and which corrective techniques are working and which are not.
The purpose of this new, open-registration workshop is to share these findings with a broad spectrum of corporate design managers from all types of companies—from small enterprises to multinational corporations.
What you will learn:
You will have a rare opportunity to discuss these common obstacles with fellow managers and learn how they are addressing these issues.
Learn the best current practices that are helping to overcome these obstacles.
How to develop a realistic action plan you can begin implementing right away in your department.
Who should attend:
The seminar has been developed primarily for managers of in-house, corporate design groups.
How you will benefit:
You will have the opportunity to meet with other design managers who deal with many of the same issues you are dealing with on a daily basis. Through discussion and exploration, you will gain the strategies and tools to begin developing a realistic action plan for your own group. All attendees will receive a copy of Phillips’ book, Creating the Perfect Design Brief: How to Manage Design for Strategic Advantage.
